Who are the Youth Ambassadors?
Youth Ambassadors are current or former Just for Kids Law clients aged 16 - 25. They are a group of young people with different skills, interests, experiences and perspectives. Every Youth Ambassador brings something different to the group and we’re really grateful for everything we learn from them and for the opportunity to work alongside them.
What do our Youth Ambassadors do?
Our Youth Ambassadors help shape Just for Kids Law in lots of different ways.
They:
- Influence organisational decisions by sharing their ideas, experiences and feedback
- Help write funding applications or attend funding meetings
- Co-design youth-friendly events, workshops and activities
- Lead and support interview panels and help recruit new staff
- Meet with staff to discuss and influence possible areas of improvements
- Shadow staff members during meetings, events and day-to-day work to better understand how the organisation operates
- Co-design office and meeting spaces to make them more welcoming, accessible and youth-friendly
- Co-develop our strategies and influenced the direction of our work
- Co-develop organisational policies and guidance
- Take part in training and learning opportunities to build new skills and confidence
- Speak at and attend conferences, events and meetings
- Support our Trainee Solicitors with their learning and projects
How often do they meet?
They meet monthly, online or in-person to upskill, learn, challenge and champion our work.
Youth Ambassadors become Young Trustees
In 2021, the Youth Ambassadors questioned and supported how they can become Young Trustees. Their influence led to the co-creation and co-development of our Young Trustee Working Group where they created a new and accessible pathway for Youth Ambassadors to apply to become Young Trustees. They along with The Board underwent training with Young Trustee Movement and created internal guidance to support the involvement of young people at Board level.
n 2022, one of our former Youth Ambassadors became a Trustee and continues to sit on the Just for Kids Law Board today. Another powerful example of young people continuing to shape our organisation and its future.

We hope to reestablish this group along with opportunities seeking more Young Trustees to join the Board soon.
