Joanne Cecil

Joanne is a barrister at Garden Court Chambers, London.  She has a mixed public law and criminal practice, also encompassing inquests and inquiries with a particular expertise in child rights and youth justice. She is ranked as a leading junior in crime and civil liberties and human rights, awarded the Legal Aid Barrister of the Year at the LALYs in 2019, and shortlisted by Legal 500 for Crime Junior of the Year 2018.

In addition to her legal work, she is a Board member of the Standing Committee for Youth Justice and former Board member of ROLE UK (DFID funded). She was also previously appointed as an Independent Commissioner to the  Access to Justice Commission: ‘Bach Commission’.  She is an Officer at the Criminal Bar Association and Secretary of the Bar Human Rights Committee.
