Education Lawyer

Just for Kids Law is a dynamic charity working with and for children and young people to hold those with power to account and fight for wider reform. We do this by providing legal representation and advice, direct advocacy and support, and through strategic litigation, campaigning and equipping others to work for children’s rights.

We are recruiting for an Education Lawyer to join our busy dynamic and influential Legal team which comprises solicitors, barristers and trainee solicitors working in the fields of Youth Justice (Crime), Education, Community Care, Immigration and Public Law.

The Legal team works closely with our Programmes Team to provide holistic support for a range of needs and ensure that the young person’s voice is heard by the professionals supporting them.

Working as part of our small team of lawyers the successful candidate will provide advice and representation to young people in Education Law matters, in particular in relation to school exclusions, SEND and discrimination. This will include managing their own case load, providing legal advocacy, supporting non-legal advocates, responding to request for advice, providing training to grassroot organisations and working with other organisations in the sector. The successful candidate will have some experience of these issues.

Just for Kids Law also runs a unique School Exclusions project which includes a School Exclusions Clinic and an online School Exclusions Hub. This role also includes the oversight and maintenance of these elements of the project.

Applications are welcome from candidates who are newly qualified who can demonstrate the relevant experience, and applicants who may be unable to meet all the essential criteria but who can demonstrate in their application their ability to bridge this gap.

The successful candidate will be extremely motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy to produce high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.

Just for Kids Law believes in the value of a diverse workforce and encourages applications from people from all ethnic, cultural, religious and social backgrounds: in particular, people from BAME, LGBTQI+, etc. We strive to create a diverse working environment where anyone, regardless of background, can thrive.
