Just for Kids Law Highly Commended for 2010 Longford Prize
19.11.10
The Longford Prize is an annual award in honour of Lord Longford, the high profile prison reformer who died in 2001. The prize is awarded to those working in the field of social or penal reform who have shown outstanding qualities of humanity, courage, persistence and originality. The 2010 Prizes were presented at the annual Longford Lecture given by Martha Lane Fox.
The Judging panel stated it was highly commending Just for Kids Law; ‘in recognition of the outstanding potential in this young community-based charity which supports children in trouble. We were particularly impressed by its holistic approach, working across traditional boundaries, to provide youngsters with both legal representation and support in accessing the sort of social care and education support that will help them steer clear of the criminal justice system in the future’.
Circles UK were the winners of the 2010 Longford Prize, in recognition of their work with sex offenders. Peter Kilgarriff was awarded the lifetime achievement for his impact on the prison-reform sector over many years.
Thank you to all those who supported us in this award in particular Helena Kennedy QC who said "I think JfK Law is a most remarkable new kid on the block, an inspirational social invention in the law where innovation is rare.’"
